Well?????????
I wonder if the next FCE will cost $99.00 now.
Or
is FCP X the new FCE?
Jeeebers! FCP X is the Glee version of video editing.
Yep times are changing.
My guess (and this is just a guess) is that FCE is dead. At $299, there's no reason for someone not to go to FCP X, if they're making a jump from iMovie or some other entry-level video program.
I love the fact that Apple has adopted the iMovie UI for FCP X. That makes the transition from iMovie to FCP X that much easier

Knight is correct.
You can trademark a graphic that contains words, but have no rights to the actual words themselves.
It is you who needs an education on what a trademark actually is.
Lame
1. Pet Store was trademarked in one form or another.
2. Trying to argue that "App" was as much part of the lexicon as "pet" is ridiculous.
Objection overruled.

What was the render dialog ?
If a clip needed processing before it could be played back in real time (like if you've added an effect to it, or it was in an un-native format, you had to 'render' the clip, and Final Cut couldn't be used until the render had finished. If you are a professional editor like me, this going is a BIG plus.

thanks. when it gets colder here, i'll start doing the bigadv units again. then the points should really add up. if they keep the units going.
What are bigadv units? and how do I run them?
I am currently running two instances using:
./fah6 -local -smp -verbosity 9
do I just add the flag ' -bigadv ' to my command above?
PS: I have a 2.53ghz MBP

CR wants them to include a free case in the box at the time of purchase. Isn't that a MORE "simple, free, and easy" solution than what Apple did and are now doing away with? Apple's solution is no longer "simple, free and easy" after Sep. 30th. BTW - it took 7 weeks for me to receive my case.
Yes, that would be even simpler. I don't view this as a big enough problem to make me indignant that Apple didn't go that extra step, but I guess if you are one of the few who have a real world problem with the iPhone 4 it feels much worse to you, and I can understand that.
Whenever there is a consumer product that does not work for a percentage of its users, that percentage is up in arms and everyone else wonders what the fuss is about.

2. New iCal look

I haven't put new songs on my iphone in months. Mostly streaming music via Pandora. If Apple starts doing a subscription music service, I would signup immediately. I'm even considering getting a lower capacity iPhone 5 when the time comes to upgrade
I guess if you have a large collection and need to carry all your songs with you at all times, the classic may still fit your needs

I think the comments about aluminium being too expensive, etc, are rediculous.
Apple use Aluminium in the new iMacs and those prices didn't increase. Also as has been said before, Aluminium is more environmentally friendly, and there is currently alot of pressure on Apple to be "greener".
I think it is possible to gave an all aluminium line up whilst still having a clear divide between consumer and pro products. Pro products always have higher specs, more BTO options, and larder screens/higher resolutions.
Personally, if Apple come up with an Aluminium Macbook, I'll certainly be buying one to use as well as my new Macbook pro (regardless of whether it has a built in optical drive or not), although, I'm not convinced the removal of the optical drive would be featured in the consumer line up.

I became a hard core Mac user after Panther was released. I was wondering if Apple took stabs at Microsoft when they were introducing Panther.
They did at WWDC '04 (when Tiger was introduced) with slogans like "Redmond, Start Your Photocopiers" and the word "Longhorn" in the Spotlight search field. ;)

desktops are slowly but surely dying out. Notebooks are becoming more and more powerful and portable so what will an iMac offer that MacBooks won't have? Larger screen?
Larger screen and still more powerful. I don't like working on notebooks. Trackpads slow me down. And the only place I use a notebook is in my house so I don't really need the portability. Desktops, depending on what we're talking about, are more upgradeable, more cutting edge.
For serious work and gaming I still go to my desktop.
If I had a macbook i'd have to connect a keyboard and mouse, monitor, desktop speakers, USB hub, etc. and then put up with a weak mobile video card. What's the point? I just don't need the portability.
If I did i'd still have a powerful desktop and then just get a weaker macbook.

Matts Macintosh describes 1984 Mac System 1 comes with dash-board like widgets. Video:
http://obamapacman.com/2011/04/1984-mac-os-system-1-gui-apps-video/
Thanks for the video Consultant. Looks like my computing knowledge doesn't span back far enough. Are there any more videos or links that discuss the history of widgets at all?
My quick bit of searching has bought me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desk_accessories and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widget_engine which implies that Apple may have been the precursor to modern desktop widgets.
Interesting stuff.

Your welcome. And just want to make clear that I meant no disrespect to the car in saying that we get it as a rental. We obviously get the bone-stock V6s, and they are really nice! I know the V8 and the SRT8 versions are amazing.
XD I wasn't thinking that :) My first experience was in a friend's rental car, though if you think the rentals are good the v8s are insane. Wish I could afford an SRT8 too xD
Thanks for the kind words though :D I could easily fill a thread with how I love the 300c (although I'm not so crazy about the 2011), I mean even.. upkeep: 5 years and 60k miles later, the only things I've done besides spark plugs and oil are new tires (they last about 30k miles) and tie rods (sucks to have to replace a suspension part I know). The brakes surprisingly are only about halfway through. Crazy.
*keeps going* Winter beaters look like fun! I mean, I've never needed one (thankfully), but I can respect em with the simple wheels and spraycan paint jobs :>
Someone really has a tata nano? :O

Ok let's not argue about gay being a choice or not again. What's the point? We just had this argument 2 pages ago and the person who thinks it's a choice usually just feels outnumbered and backs out, and rightfully so. Their opinion is wrong, they may realize it years down the line, or they may not. Either way, their side is losing. Bigots always lose in the end in this country, and they know it.

I love the adoption of iMovies people detection and shot detection features... this is great.... rolling shutter fixing is a feature adobe previewed but typical for apple they do it on import, rather than as an "effect" you can add.
