Sweep

Matty Ice
I took in Sunday’s Texas Rangers’ 5-1 victory live at the Ballpark Sunday and I have a report:

1. The big, new video board is nice, I guess. Half the stadium still can’t see it.

2. Winning brings in fans. It also brings in female fans. I went to the fourth or fifth game of last season against Toronto and the level of ass (with the winning) has gone up exponentially. Like from a three to a nine. Used to, you’d ogle and call her “Rangers game hot.” Now they’re simply just hot.

3. I realize I sound like a complete perv. I have little else going for me right now.

4. With chicks come “The Wave.” Girls love “The Wave.” Ninety-five percent of all “Waves” are started by girls. After about a dozen attempts, the girls gave up.

5. Still love in the in-game bits from Chuck Morgan. The kid running from left field to steal the base. The Texas Legends race.

6. The Rangers are embracing the “Texification” of its image. Commenting on its hospitality. And 70 percent of the in-game music is Texas-centric. Still love “Deep in the Heart of Texas.”

7. Overall, it’s the same ol’ Ballpark. Just a lot fuller.

To the product: I love Mike Hindman’s Tweet yesterday after the game to the tune of “Is there anything the Rangers didn’t do right to win?”

They played from behind (Friday), played from the lead (Sunday), won with power (all three), won with production of runs (the last run Sunday, Saturday), the offense was terrific and the pitching got better and better with the days.

Matt Harrison was simply phenomenal.

More frustrating because he has this type of control in him. When that cutter is working, he’s as good of a No. 3 starter that you’ll find. Unfortunately, he gets flustered, misses the zone and winds up hurt. Here’s hoping 2011 is a different story.

The bullpen is probably the second most significant story after the offense.
Loved that Mason Tobin and Pedro Strop got work. Strop is a lynchpin here. If he is focused and ready to take that step, he’s your eighth-inning guy. He was electric Saturday.

Neftali Feliz is head and shoulders better. Darren Oliver bounced back Sunday.

Again, I reiterate Hindman’s summarization: Is there anything the Rangers didn’t do right?
