Colby Lewis' last two starts, including the 8-1 loss yesterday in Minnesota:
5 IP - 17 hits - 15 runs - 4 home runs - 3 walks - 4 strikeouts.
What is ailing Lewis wasn't fixed yesterday. The Twins -- a really lackluster offense -- used Lewis' two inning as batting practice.
I'd like diagnose him with TooMuchOfThePlateitis. Seems like everything was right in the middle of the plate, his breaking pitches didn't break and he doesn't have the zip for it not to look like a batting cage.
He's allegedly healthy. He just sucks.
Worse yet, Mike Napoli has a tricky oblique and is on the disabled list. Taylor Teagarden is coming up from Round Rock.
I tried to go back to 2010 and find a similiar stretch for Lewis. It was hardly there. From late-June through early August, Lewis went through a giant dry spell in terms of winning. But he was pitching really well.
In early-August, he went two starts totaling nine innings allowing 15 runs. That's it.
I have confidence in Lewis. He's a veteran. He was pitching great before this bump in the road and I can only assume he'll find his way. His early-season struggles do not help things including my confidence. Needs to find that fifth gear.
